Pickup is an ability that may grant its user an item.
Pickup may get its user an item on random dungeon floor entry. Its effect is varied between player recruits and NPC Pokémon, but the shared algorithm is listed below.
- On floor entry, the Pokemon is checked if it is eligible to get an item.
- If the floor has items in its item pool (i.e. floor has items regular-spawning items), Pickup chooses a random item from its pool, with all items having the same chance to be chosen.
- The chosen item is checked against half its relative spawn chance. If the rolled number matches the chance, then the user gets the item. If it is a stackable item, you get exactly the average amount of it.
The user is eligible if it is the active Pokémon and not fainted. Its bag must also have an empty slot in order to receive an item from Pickup. If the user gets an item, it is sent to the first empty slot in the bag.
The algorithm is repeated once per user's team member, including itself. This is likely a bug, however, it evens out the incredibly low chance to get anything worthwhile, and even then it's still really low.
The user is eligible if it has no held item. If the user gets an item, said item will be its held item.
